About the maker

README

SPEERD is a workshop practice for objects that sit between engineering, craft, and performance. The shop it comes out of is the Chaos Factory.

The practice

Different materials. Same curiosity.

I build responsive LED art, overcommitted costumes, and wearable metalwork in a shop called the Chaos Factory. The disciplines look unrelated until the workbench fills up: each needs a feel for systems, materials, human movement, and the precise moment when restraint stops being useful.

This site is a living record of finished pieces and the decisions behind them. The project pages tell the story; the galleries hold the close looks, strange details, and proof that the thing really worked.

Workshop notes

A few things I believe.

  1. 01 The engineering should serve the experience.
  2. 02 A prop is not finished until a person can live in it.
  3. 03 Serviceability is a design feature.
  4. 04 There is always room for one more light.

Make something unreasonable

Have an object that needs light, metal, or both?

The best projects usually begin before every detail is sensible.
